Behind the Mirror

The Woman Behind the Mirror

Novelist. Mythmaker. Keeper of Forgotten Ghosts.

Angelika Achoy author of The Vixen in the Gold Coffin

Angelika Achoy is a novelist, researcher, and founder of Nirvana Noir.

Long before graduate school, business strategy, or professional titles, she was a student of stories.

Her shelves were crowded with Shakespearean tragedy, Anne Rice’s immortal vampires, Greek philosophy, mythology, folklore, religious texts, criminal investigations, historical records, and the strange corners of human behavior that most people prefer not to examine too closely.

Years later, studies in psychology, business, marketing, and graduate management would deepen that fascination, giving her new ways to explore power, desire, vice, redemption, and the invisible forces that shape both individuals and civilizations.

Today, those influences converge in her fiction.

Her debut novel, The Vixen in the Gold Coffin, is the first installment of The Gold Coffin & The Mirror Series, a gothic historical saga where mythology, philosophy, history, religion, and the supernatural collide beneath the glittering masks of saints, sinners, monsters, and forgotten ghosts.

The Library That Raised Me

I have always suspected that books are living creatures. 📚🌹

Some arrive politely, sit quietly upon a shelf, and leave without much consequence.

Others move in permanently.

They rearrange the furniture of your mind, drink all the wine, adopt your favorite chair, and refuse to pay rent.

Mine arrived in strange company.

Shakespeare wandered in first, carrying doomed lovers and beautiful fools. Anne Rice followed close behind with immortals who made virtue seem terribly dull by comparison. Soon enough came philosophers, mythmakers, saints, heretics, poets, criminals, gods, monsters, and the occasional ghost who had apparently mistaken my imagination for a boarding house.

The Egyptian Book of the Dead shared space with Greek philosophy. Folklore rubbed shoulders with criminal investigations. Mythology flirted shamelessly with history while law books attempted, rather unsuccessfully, to keep order among them all. 😏

It was chaos, but it made sense.

In a messy world where not much intertwines, I found liaisons between gods buried in forgotten myths and mortal heroes and heroines wandering through a myriad of different novels. I watched philosophers argue with poets, saints share corridors with sinners, and monsters become far more honest than the people hunting them.

I loved every minute of it.

Even now, I remain fascinated by the things that linger in the shadows of human nature: desire, power, obsession, redemption, vanity, faith, greed, envy, love, and the curious ways they shape both people and civilizations.

Perhaps that is why my stories are crowded with sinners, saints, monsters, dreamers, and the occasional fool who opens a forbidden door and is genuinely surprised when something answers from the other side. 🕯️

After all, I have always found them far more interesting than the well-behaved.

The Birth of The Vixen in the Gold Coffin

The truth is that The Vixen in the Gold Coffin was never born from a desire to write a novel.

It was born because Mylène di Catania deserved a world of her own. 🌹

She is one of the Five Muses who inhabit my creative universe, each possessing her own voice, her own world, and her own story. Yet Mylène’s tale arrived first, not because she was more important than the others, but because her story carried a truth I felt compelled to explore.

Mylène is the matriarch of the muses.

She is a woman shaped by trauma, loss, sacrifice, resilience, and rebirth. She shapes worlds, societies, and destinies with the sharpness of a dagger and the sweetness of a nightingale’s song.

What fascinates me most about her has never been her power.

It is her refusal to surrender.

Through Mylène, I explore the laws of the universe, the cycles that bind us, the consequences of our choices, and the quiet strength required to continue when life has given us every reason to stop.

Like the phoenix, she rises through cleansing fire.

Again.

And again.

And again.

She is rebirth.

She is resilience.

She is the voice that reminds us that falling is not the same thing as failing.

Perhaps that is why her story became the first to be told.

Because beneath the mythology, the magic, and the centuries of history, Mylène embodies something deeply human:

The courage to rise once more.

The Things that Make Me

I have always been a collector of strange things. 🌹

Not objects.

Questions.

Stories.

Fragments.

The kind that follow you home and refuse to leave.

I fell in love with mythology because the gods were never perfect. They were jealous, vain, passionate, foolish, loving, cruel, magnificent, and terribly human. They stumbled. They desired. They destroyed things. Sometimes they redeemed themselves. Sometimes they did not.

I adored them for it.

The same was true of Shakespeare’s lovers, Anne Rice’s immortals, forgotten queens, disgraced kings, saints, sinners, philosophers, and dreamers. They arrived from different centuries and different worlds, yet somehow they all seemed to be asking the same questions.

Why do we love?

Why do we suffer?

Why do we keep going?

Perhaps that is why I never learned to separate mythology from philosophy, history from folklore, or religion from storytelling.

In my mind, they have always shared the same table. 📚🕯️

A violin from another century can lead me down a rabbit hole. A criminal investigation can leave me awake until dawn. A line of poetry can haunt me for years. A piece of music can alter the course of an entire chapter.

I have spent evenings dancing tango, afternoons wandering through history, and far too many nights chasing ideas that should have been sensible enough to leave me alone.

Thankfully, they never do.

The world has always seemed a little larger to me than it appears on the surface.

A little stranger.

A little more magical.

And infinitely more interesting. 🦢

My Letter to You.

Before you leave me, there is one last thing I would like to say. 🌹

Life is a roller coaster full of obstacles and different tests. Sometimes we might get our hearts broken into a million pieces. Sometimes we might lose someone we love. Sometimes we might lose everything. Yet the uncertainty of not knowing what comes next can be daunting.

I wish I could say that none of those things ever happen, but they do.

It is not about failure.

It is about how many times you grab the bull by the horns and fight it.

You are far stronger than you think.

In those moments when it feels like the end of the world, when everything seems to be crumbling around you, when you feel lost, remember this:

Keep going.

Baby steps.

Even if you have to crawl.

Take it day by day.

Remember your strength.

You are a warrior.

You are a fighter.

You are allowed to fall.

You are allowed to break down.

You are allowed to cry.

And you are allowed a new beginning as many times as necessary.

The story is not over yet.

You are your own writer. 🖤🦢

XOXO,

Angelika
